Paying it Forward
|8 June 2014|
Many of you will remember a movie called... Paying it Forward, well...
This is a story that needs to be told and we here at Pink Phoenix Cancer Foundation feel so privileged to be a part of it.
An incredible young man called Chase Tanner, at the age of 16, was diagnosed with leukemia and after enduring months of chemo, was scheduled for a bone marrow transplant in early 2014.
Chase's mother, Sjanine Tanner tirelessly fundraised on behalf of the Chase Tanner Trust, to raise funds for this procedure, but tragically... Chase lost his fight against cancer in November 2013 before he had the opportunity for a transplant.
When Sharon Van Straaten and Sjanine Tanner met, they shared an instant bond which resulted in a vision for a project of "PAYING IT FORWARD"
The Chase Tanner Trust wanted to give financial support to children under 18, receiving treatment for blood related cancers, and... Pink Phoenix Cancer Foundation recommended Jordan Smith, age 11, diagnosed with bone cancer, whom they were raising funds for at the time.
This was a match made in heaven!
Pink Phoenix Cancer Foundation arranged a meeting between these two mothers, Sjanine Tanner and Tracy Smith, united in a common bond...one from the loss of her precious son and the other in the fight for her son's life...
Jordan Smith, who has undergone 6 surgeries, a femur replacement and endured months of chemotherapy, needed to relocate to Pretoria for specialized treatment.
The Chase Tanner Trust stepped in and assisted with a donation towards the costs of traveling and accommodation to alleviate the financial pressure in order for Jordan's parents to concentrate on his well being.
THANK YOU, Sjanine Tanner and the Chase Tanner Trust for your contribution and support. This wonderful legacy created in honor of Chase, will continue to "Pay it Forward" Thank you to Sean Baker Photography for recording these special moments.
